The Blog Era

People get fired because of blogs.

Really.

I'm not here to advocate free speech, that's a broken record. I love the First Amendment - I live by it. If this were any other establishment, I would've been subject to firing squad already. But no, America has given me a hand in speaking my mind.

Kind of.

Pride is an underestimated variable in the American psyche. If you want to talk about your boss and how he's a complete idiot, be sure to hide behind anonymity. No Formspring.

But, the phenomenon of blogging has left people out of work - simply for speaking their mind. Listen, if you are checking in and out of your job every day, getting your arbitrary stuff done, and coming home...you are allowed a filter. Maybe your husband doesn't want to listen to you, maybe things are too hectic at home to add another destructive attitude within the mix. The reality of it is, if I have trouble with my superior, and I'm a hard worker, I'm going to be vocal about it. I don't agree with Eastview's competitive nature, or the crutch athletes get when applying to colleges. This doesn't effect anything really, just an opinion.

Opinions aren't bulletproof. They can brign the worst or best out of you. But people will try to bring them down all due to pride. School spirit. Work morale. All because of a THOUGHT. Not even a tangible thing.

"I put the wall up but thoughts just tear through" - Joe Budden.
